Register To Keep Junk Mail And Cold Calls At Bay

Telephone Preference Service (TPS)

The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) is the central opt out register on which you can record your preference not to receive unsolicited sales and marketing telephone calls to your home or mobile* telephone numbers. It is a legal requirement that all organisations (including charities, voluntary organisations and political parties) do not make such calls to numbers registered on the TPS unless they have your consent to do so.

Mailing Preference Service (MPS)

With UK consumers generating over £25 billion worth of postal sales per year, many may welcome the information and special offers they receive by post. However, it's also understandable why some people might take a different view. The MPS is there to make your choice known - so you get the mail you want and need.

Unwanted, unread Direct Mail has no place in anyone's home. And if you're not interested in receiving it, MPS will update their records for Direct Mail companies to see and adjust their lists as you request.

E-mail Preference Service (e-MPS)

e-MPS will reduce the amount of unsolicited commercial e-mail you receive from national marketers. When you register with e-MPS, your name and e-mail address is added to the e-MPS file for a period of one year. The file is provided to participating companies four times a year. Companies that participate in the e-MPS program, which includes many of the nation's largest direct marketing companies, will match their lists against the e-MPS list and remove your name and e-mail address from their lists so that you don't receive any e-mail from them, or from other companies that may rent their e-mail lists. It is important to note that all companies that are members of The DMA are required to use e-MPS, which is why you know that if you are buying from one of e-MPS members, they are likely to be a reputable direct marketing company.

Facsimile Preference Service (FPS)

Under Government legislation introduced on 1 May 1999 it is unlawful to send an individual an unsolicited sales and marketing fax without prior permission. Businesses have the opportunity to register fax numbers on which they do not wish to receive direct marketing faxes.

You can do this by registering with the Fax Preference Service. Although this Service is primarily aimed at businesses, as individuals have protection under the legislation, individuals may also register their fax numbers if they wish.
