"a very positive outcome"

At the KCC Cabinet Scrutiny Committee (April 23rd) the Cabinet Member for Finance, Nick Chard, was quizzed over the county's apparent threat to community services supplied from premises occupied by the Allington Baptist Church in London Road, Maidstone.

A county planning application which seeks to evict the church from its present site to enable the County Council to sell the land for residential development has caused uproar in the local community.

After hearing the appeals from the Trustees of the church and local County Members (Lib Dem Dan Daley and Conservative Jeff Curwood), the Cabinet Member said that he would now take a personal lead in trying to find a solution to enable the community services to continue on a site to be agreed before the present land was disposed of.

Dan said "This is seen as a very positive outcome and will ensure continuity for the time being".
