Campaign for Traffic Calming Measures After Another Car is Written Off at the accident black spot

Campaign for traffic calming measures after another car is written off at a accident black spot

KCC Councillor Trudy Dean is once again supporting the residents of St Leonards Street, West Malling, as they step up their campaign for traffic calming measures after yet another car is written off at the accident black spot last week.

Numerous accidents have occurred at the same spot. It is the same spot where a school bus was involved in a head on smash in June of this year. Concerned and frustrated residents are convinced that most of these accidents are due to speeding through the dangerous double bend and have been calling for traffic calming measures for many years.

"Designs for the 20mph zone and accompanying 30mph in St Leonard's St originally included measures for slowing traffic in St Leonard's" declares Trudy in support of the residents "But these proposals were dumped for no good reason that I could ever discover".

In the light of the continuing accident frequency, Trudy has asked KCC Highway officers to look at the problem again. "I think a positive way forward would be to present options to the Parish Council and residents of St. Leonards Street, and if there is a funding shortfall, we will seek a positive solution before there is another fatality at this accident black spot".
